Why do we no longer sell the Vozol Bar 3000?

Because there was no clear legal basis — or, more precisely, because e-cigarettes were not covered by Swiss tobacco product legislation — nicotine-containing e-liquids and prefilled cartridges with nicotine could be sold under the Cassis de Dijon principle. This principle states that, in the interest of competitiveness, products may also be sold in Switzerland if they are approved for sale in the European Economic Area. The EU Tobacco Products Directive stipulates that e-liquids containing nicotine must not be sold in bottles larger than 10 ml. Prefilled cartridges and disposable e-cigarettes must also not contain more than 2 ml of e-liquid. Even though there is a country in the European Economic Area where this restriction does not apply, in November 2023 we were instructed to comply with EU standards, even though, under the Cassis de Dijon principle, these products should also have been allowed for sale in Switzerland. Clarifying this legal situation in court would likely take longer than finalising the new Swiss Tobacco Products Ordinance, which will create this issue for us anyway. In practical terms, this means that since the order in November 2023, we have not been allowed to import disposable e-cigarettes with more than 2 ml of e-liquid, but we were allowed to sell through products already imported until the end of August 2024.

We personally don’t see any sensible point to this restriction, other than making e-cigarettes less appealing for people trying to quit tobacco. We therefore consider it consumer-unfriendly and bad for the environment. If disposable e-cigarettes are limited to a maximum of 600 puffs, or a 2 ml fill volume, the result is simply more waste.

As an alternative to larger disposable e-cigarettes, new models are now available where the disposable vape itself has a 2 ml fill volume but also comes with an additional 10 ml e-liquid bottle, giving you a larger total volume in the end.
