Comprehensive Review of Don Cristo E-Liquids - Expert Vape Critique
The Don Cristo E-Liquids
Honestly, Don Cristo sounds like a Cuban drug lord's name. It's immediately associated with cigars, and one envisions the cocaine baron Don Cristo leisurely puffing on a cigar in his gilded Baroque chair. Cigar? Yes! The Don Cristo Original was even crowned the best tobacco e-liquid two years in a row – but don't worry, it doesn't taste as strong as a real cigar.
The Don Cristo Original
I would describe it as a classic tobacco liquid. Personally, I've never really enjoyed a tobacco-only liquid. But as an "accompaniment" to a creamy liquid, I do like tobacco. The Don Cristo Original can definitely be counted among the "evergreens" of tobacco liquids because it tastes authentic, not too harsh, and not too smoky, with the essence of Montecristo cigars infused in the base for 90 days. It's a really good, authentic tobacco liquid that most tobacco vapers should enjoy. It's ranked fourth on my list.
The Don Cristo Pistachio
After the Don Cristo Original came to the market, other flavor profiles soon followed, all based on it. Pistachio has a creamy taste and, as the name suggests, a light flavor of untoasted pistachios. Fine nutty notes and a fairly heavy sweetness define this e-liquid. However, it's not necessarily a summer hit, but it's my personal favorite in the Don Cristo series. What I missed here, though, is the tobacco. It's somewhat hidden behind the sweetness and creaminess and can only be lightly sensed. To balance out the sweetness, I added 10ml of the Original to the 60ml Pistachio bottle. This helped reduce the excessive sweetness of this creamy liquid.
The Don Cristo Custard
The Don Cristo Custard, extremely fine with aromatic vanilla and a very heavy, sweet cream, felt a bit overwhelming to me at 26 degrees Celsius with the sun blazing and long jeans on. The Don Cristo Custard leans towards Drip Hacks' Cremeux, but with a slight "tobacco" touch from the Original, which makes a significant difference. Here, too, the tobacco was too weak, and the liquid was too sweet for my taste. About 10ml of the Original into the Custard bottle solved the problem (shorts didn't help, unfortunately). The Custard ranks second out of six on my list, so it's a clear personal recommendation if you like custards with a slightly bitter contrast.
The Don Cristo Coffee
Tastes like tobacco, who would have thought? Kidding aside, the liquid has a light coffee and condensed milk flavor, but the tobacco seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the way. It's somewhat challenging to describe the flavor profile, but I think it comes close to a well-sweetened milky coffee without the "milky" component but still slightly creamy. Do you know what I mean? Since I'm not a big coffee-liquid fan, the Don Cristo Coffee ranks fifth and almost last on my personal list. Nevertheless, I would rate it as good to very good because if you like milky coffee without milk, you'll surely enjoy this flavor.
The Don Cristo Sesame
Sesame, caramel, and honey. Where's the tobacco? Slowly, I suspect that Don Cristo wants to appeal to a broader audience with these mixed liquids than I initially thought. Even with Don Cristo Sesame, the aroma of Montecristo cigars is only subtly present, but it doesn't bother me. After I had almost drunk the whole bottle during the taste test, the Sesame also convinced me in my Billet Box / Vapeshell. The flavor profile strongly reminds me of those sweet sesame squares you can find in health food stores or Alnatura – just without the roasted notes. Fine honey and a bit of caramel complement the sesame nicely and turn the liquid into a creamy-nutty dessert. It ranks third on my list and is therefore a clear, personal recommendation!
The Don Cristo XO
Cream & Butter & Brown Sugar = Butterscotch. A cream that literally makes you melt. Surprisingly, the Don Cristo XO is much less sweet than the Pistaccio / Custard, which I actually appreciate. The liquid offers a pleasant buttery note with a hint of caramel and a bit of the Original tobacco. It's slightly sweet for dessert vapers, but rather sweet for tobacco-only vapers. In my opinion, a bit more caramelized sugar and more cream would make this liquid really well-rounded. As it's slightly missing this, the flavor profile seems somewhat flat to me. Therefore, the XO ranks last on my list.
