How to Handle Batteries and Rechargeable Cells Properly
Batteries can vent gas! When can that happen? If cells or batteries have been left sitting in a mod for years and the battery quality isn’t up to scratch. It can also happen if the mod has no electronics. In theory, it can happen with mechanical mods too if you don’t really know what you’re doing and the coil build asks far too much of the mod.
When a battery vents, there’s a short circuit and the mod gets extremely hot! That’s exactly why all mods have vent holes. That said, in my whole life I’ve never met a vaper whose batteries have actually vented. But yes, it is theoretically possible!

Make sure the terminals are installed the right way round. Most mods have plus and minus markings, and on newer models the electronics usually protect against incorrect battery orientation too. Still, there are exceptions, so take a moment to pay attention when inserting them!
Batteries should be stored separately. So don’t keep them with small metal bits and pieces. The terminals should not touch anything, such as a paper clip. There are also dedicated battery cases for this.
Don’t put loose batteries in your trouser pocket together with your car keys, as this can cause a short circuit. You should also never fully discharge batteries. This simply helps them last longer. Modern mods and good chargers have electronic protection against overcharging, because that isn’t ideal for batteries either. Never put mods or batteries on charge and then leave the house – just like with mobile phones or tablets, if you’re charging a device, you should keep an eye on it. Plugs in particular can sometimes get surprisingly hot. Unfortunately, from there it can be only a short step to a house fire!
