Pimp Your E-Liquid: Nicotine Bomb – Vaping Abbreviations, Tips & Tricks Part XI

What you’ll need for this is the same kit you’ll use later for mixing your own e-liquids: PG and VG, possibly distilled water, and flavour concentrates. Since you want to dilute the nicotine, you need something with “zero nicotine”!

Let’s say you’ve got a 10 ml e-liquid with 9 mg nicotine, but you only want half the strength. First, mix PG and VG in a bottle at the ratio you prefer. Make 10 ml of your PG/VG blend in a slightly larger bottle, then pour half of the e-liquid you bought by mistake into a third bottle and top it up with your own mix. Now there’s one catch: the flavour will be too weak. This is where your creativity comes in. Either you’ve got hold of the same flavour concentrates from the maker of the e-liquid you bought, or you use concentrates from other brands and create your own blend.

Let’s say it’s a tobacco e-liquid: give it a boost with eucalyptus or menthol. Not your thing? Try whisky or strawberry. Coffee e-liquid? If you don’t have a coffee concentrate, try hazelnut, sweet cream or chocolate. Is it a fruit e-liquid? Add other fruits and mix up your own e-liquid fruit salad! Is it a sweet e-liquid? Chocolate always works! Basically, the only limit is your imagination. After mixing, shake well and let it steep. Of course, for that you’ll also need flavour concentrates.

Do you need sterile water in your e-liquid? Honestly, I leave it out, but it depends on where your PG and VG come from. Take a look at the liquid: if it’s already very thin, I wouldn’t add another couple of drops of sterile water. If it doesn’t vape well, add just a few drops. You can find pipettes in shops for adding drops to your e-liquid. We’ll cover mixing gear next week, though. So next week: what does a DIY mixer need?

And yes, we’re using round numbers here — in reality there’ll obviously be less in the bottle, for example only 8 ml left!

Either way, you can get PG and VG from our shop separately, or make it even easier with ready-made bases. That saves you a bit of maths and the whole water question!
