E-Cigarette or Vape Device?
Honestly – I’ve always found the term e-cigarette, or electronic cigarette, pretty silly too! For one simple reason: you’re not smoking anything; you’re vaping! The wording sounds – exactly – like smoking. That’s exactly why anti-vaping voices use it so consistently. It lets them stir up emotions 
instead of actually explaining anything.
But because the phrase is everywhere in the media, and newspapers rarely use terms like vaping, vape device or vape, what do smokers search for when they want to try vaping? Exactly: e-cigarette or electronic cigarette.
So vape shops really can’t avoid using these terms. Otherwise, customers simply won’t find them. Calling it “vaping” is more accurate, of course – but that’s already one step into insider territory.
In short: as long as the media use the term e-cigarette, shops have to use those words now and then too. And since the term is used consistently even at EU level, you can’t really blame newspapers either – after all, they want readers to find their articles. And a smoker who wants to try vaping will search for the word that comes to mind first.
