E-Liquids III: Flavours – Vaping Abbreviations, Tips and Tricks Part VIII
When it comes to e-liquids, flavours are usually grouped into a few main categories: tobacco e-liquids, desserts or simply sweet e-liquids, and fruit. Whether menthol and drinks get their own categories, or whether more unusual flavours are filed under “Other”, varies from shop to shop. Among vapers, especially on vape forums, sweet e-liquids are often referred to more casually as candy flavours or sweet treats. You’ll also find sweet options in the drinks category, alongside rum, whisky and more.
Tobacco E-Liquids
Tobacco e-liquids may simply try to mimic the taste of certain cigarettes, or they may come as blends. So why do tobacco e-liquids usually have names that only roughly hint at the cigarette brand they’re meant to resemble? Simple: if it says Dromedary, everyone knows what it might be getting at. If it said Camel, however, it could lead to a trademark claim from the tobacco manufacturer. That said, let me repeat this warning – if you’re switching from smoking, tobacco e-liquids aren’t necessarily the best choice for your e-cigarette. Espresso, sweet treats or perhaps fruit will probably taste much better to you.
Sweet E-Liquids
It’s not only women who enjoy sweet flavours. If you’re switching from smoking, the upside is that you can vape a dessert instead of eating it. In my opinion, sweet e-liquids really do have the advantage that you don’t necessarily have to eat tiramisu. Depending on the manufacturer, dessert e-liquids can be a real revelation. They’re also an ideal playground for DIY mixers. A quick tip: on the forums, American sweet blends are considered sweeter than European ones.
Fruit E-Liquids
Pretty much every fruit you can think of exists as a flavour. Most fruit flavours are also very close to the real thing – the only downside is that this can sometimes make them a little too tart. But here too, it all comes down to personal taste. With fruit, though, I’d recommend going for fruit blends, such as D'light Gold https://www.dampfi.ch/dlight-gold-light.html – fruit, vanilla and a hint of menthol. Well worth treating yourself to.
Drinks and Coffee E-Liquids
I’m a committed coffee vaper, not least because good manufacturers can absolutely nail everything from ristretto and espresso through to cappuccino. In the drinks category, fans of sweet e-liquids will also find the odd revelation in the form of milkshakes, while the tough guys can of course reach for rum. Naturally, tea lovers haven’t been forgotten either.
Menthol E-Liquids
With menthol e-liquids, you’ll find pure menthol liquids in different strengths, as well as blends ranging from tobacco and green tea through to more adventurous creations like Fire and Ice.
All of these e-liquids can come in different mix ratios. As already mentioned, in Switzerland only nicotine-free e-liquids are available. However, if you’re in Switzerland, you’re allowed to have 150 ml of nicotine e-liquid from abroad sent to you per shipment for private use (see the Swiss Federal Customs Administration information sheet).
In our next post, we’ll take a look at typical beginner issues and then move on to mixing your own e-liquids.
