Making the Switch I – Vaping for Beginners

Why isn’t this question easy to answer? Because everyone is different. Some people can simply throw away their cigarettes and vape from then on. Others do better by taking it step by step, and some don’t really want to quit at all – but their health problems have become so serious that they feel they have no other choice.

Switching to vaping – e-liquid

The most important thing is that your e-liquids have to taste good to you! That means trying a few different e-liquids. Don’t start with tobacco flavours only because you think they’ll taste like a cigarette – they won’t. Try some sweet and fruity flavours too. Menthol is worth a go as well – and no, it’s not “for girls” just because menthol cigarettes tend to be smoked more by women. Menthol in a tank tastes completely different.

Switching to vaping – how much kit you need

If you’re making the switch, you should have two devices. The exception would be very light smokers; they can usually manage with just one. You can start with one device and, if it works for you, pick up a second one later. But nothing is more annoying than your battery dying when you’re out and about. If you’re craving your vape, you’ll head to the nearest kiosk and buy yourself … exactly! Don’t worry: if you don’t manage to switch, you’ll still be able to sell the batteries second-hand in vaping forums. Then you need three tanks! Why three tanks? So you always have different e-liquids close to hand. Who wants to refill a tank at the tram stop? Plus, once you stop smoking, your sense of taste changes faster than you can imagine. Suddenly, after lunch, your e-liquid tastes awful... and once again you don’t have the time or a quiet place to wash out the tank and then wait for it to dry. If you work in a calmer environment, two tanks may be enough, but if you have less peace and quiet, go for three.

And don’t forget mineral water – no, coffee doesn’t do the same job. Alongside the coffee you’re going to drink anyway, you need to drink water too. As many beginners notice, PG and VG can dry out your mucous membranes.

Good to know: the nicotine in cigarettes reaches your brain almost instantly; with vaping, it takes a little longer. That’s why people switching over often end up chain-vaping. If you suddenly start feeling nauseous, you’ve probably been puffing a bit too much.
