Mods with Battery Adapters

Over the past few months, more and more mods have landed on the market that can run on both 26650 and 18650 batteries. Two things immediately stand out – 26650 batteries give you more power, and an adapter is always included.

Batteries and size

First, it helps to know what the numbers on a battery mean. Once you do, everything else falls into place.

The first two digits of a rechargeable battery indicate the diameter, and the next two digits indicate the length. So an 18650 battery has a diameter of 18 mm, while a 26650 has a diameter of 26 mm. The length, however, is the same for both – 65 mm or 6.5 cm. The zero refers to the cell design.

So, with the same design and the same length, a 26650 battery has a wider diameter. That extra width at the same length automatically means more power than with the slimmer 18650 batteries.

And this is where the adapter comes in. If a mod is designed to work with both battery sizes, the extra space left by the slimmer batteries has to be filled.

By the way – if you're just starting out, we recommend sticking to devices with built-in batteries so you don't have to deal with battery questions.
