Quit Smoking with an E-Cigarette?
Quitting smoking. But how?
Can vaping really help? It’s a question almost everyone asks when buying their first device — and most of us on the team felt exactly the same back then. If you really want to quit smoking, there are a few things to keep in mind, and we’d like to share them with you here. Whenever you start something new, you’re naturally missing experience. And without experience, failure becomes more likely — which is exactly what we want to help you avoid. In our stores, we’ve been helping people who want to quit smoking every single day for years, and over time you naturally build up plenty of experience that we’re happy to pass on to you.
So what should you keep in mind if you want to quit smoking with an e-cigarette?
Visit a vape shop!
Our first tip: take your time choosing your first e-cigarette. The best thing you can do to give yourself the best chance of quitting is to visit a vape shop and get proper advice. Experienced staff know exactly where to start, you’ll be able to try out a few devices and flavours, and you’ll benefit a lot from the experience of people who help smokers switch every day. If you buy a device online blind and without any guidance, quitting smoking only works in very rare cases. Don’t worry, vaping isn’t rocket science, but every type of device has a few tips and tricks worth knowing so you can use it smoothly as a substitute for cigarettes — and actually quit smoking.
E-liquid flavour and nicotine
Let’s be honest: hardly anyone actually enjoys the taste of burnt tobacco, the bad breath that comes with it or clothes that stink of smoke. You can leave all that behind now, because you’ve got your device — and maybe already one or two e-liquids to help you quit smoking. Our tip for getting started: buy a few small bottles of e-liquid in different flavours and nicotine strengths. At the beginning, there are really only two rules for quitting smoking: keep your hands off the cigarettes and find out what genuinely works for you in the long run. That includes the flavour of your e-liquid, your device and the nicotine strength, if you want nicotine at all. If the throat hit is too strong, don’t just put the device aside — get an e-liquid with less nicotine. If you don’t feel anything at all when you vape and all you can think about is tobacco cigarettes, get an e-liquid with more nicotine. Too sweet? Too fruity? Too bitter? Get a different e-liquid. In short: stick with it and don’t give up on quitting smoking right away. That’s how quitting smoking with e-cigarettes can work.
Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happens far too often. We even once imagined launching a Baschi e-cigarette that sings “give me another chance” to you if it’s been left lying around for a week. But that’s a topic for another post.
Stock up
The third and final tip to help you quit smoking is this: make sure you always have a small stash of e-liquid, coils (replacement atomizer heads) or pods and, most importantly, enough battery charge. The biggest risk of relapse is definitely that moment when you’re having a relaxed few beers with your friends and your battery dies or your e-liquid runs out. Just like that, you’ve bummed a cigarette, and that’s often how the vicious circle starts all over again. Why? As long as you haven’t managed to quit smoking, you probably won’t be able to quit vaping either.
What the stats say
Giving up smoking really isn’t easy. But the e-cigarette is increasingly being seen as something of a “miracle cure”. It has now been shown that around 18% of people making the switch actually manage it. Compared with alternative methods, which have a statistical success rate of around 5%, your chances of quitting smoking are good. That’s why our mission is to help more people quit smoking — and we believe that with a proper consultation, our tips and a little willpower, it should be possible to increase that 18% success rate significantly.
About me - After a few years as a vaper and almost three years on the shop floor in the Zurich and Horgen stores, it was time for a change of scenery — and somehow I ended up in the endless depths of the Dampfi office. There, among other things, I discovered an unexpected love of writing and will be treating you to plenty more informative, pointless, funny, helpful and silly posts in the future. Requests, suggestions and criticism are very welcome and can be sent to [email protected].
