Mix Your Own Longfill E-Liquids: Everything You Need to Know
Mixing Longfill E-Liquids
Longfill liquids are becoming increasingly popular. We are also continuously expanding our range in this area. To ensure you know what to do with them, we have this post in our Dampfi blog for you.
The biggest advantage, apart from the always very affordable price, is that you can completely customize the VG and PG ratio. It is also possible to set a higher nicotine level compared to shortfill liquids because there is much more space in the longfill bottles. Because a longfill liquid is nothing more than flavoring in a larger bottle that needs to be diluted with base before vaping.
What do you need to make a longfill liquid vapeable?
- Neutral base in your preferred mixing ratio
- Nicotine shots
- Base that already contains nicotine (optional)
- A Pullshake bottle opener (optional, makes life easier)
- A free hand and a good shake of the liquid after mixing
Longfill E-Liquids typically come in the following sizes/amounts of flavoring:
- 60ml bottle with 10ml or 20ml of flavoring
- 100ml bottle with 10ml or 20ml of flavoring
- 120ml bottle with 10ml or 20ml of flavoring

Mixing a Longfill E-Liquid with Nicotine-Containing Base
You can find our range of bases that are (almost) pre-mixed with nicotine at this link. Once unpacked, pour the included nicotine shots into the large bottle and shake it well.
Options available:
- 50% VG/50% PG with 3mg or 6mg nicotine
- 80% VG / 20% PG with 3mg or 6mg nicotine
Now, let's say you mix a 60ml longfill with a 6mg base, which already contains 10ml of base, resulting in only 5mg in the finished liquid.
Why not 6mg?
Due to the flavor already present in the bottle, which does not contain nicotine, the 6mg base is diluted by 1/6. This means that the nicotine content of the base is reduced to 5mg instead of 6mg.
If you want more nicotine, you should use nicotine shots and 0mg base.
Why 0mg base?
Let's assume we want to mix our 60ml longfill liquid, which already contains 10ml of flavoring in the bottle, to 6mg. We only need two 18mg nicotine shots, as you can see in this table.
A nicotine shot is equivalent to 10ml, and 10ml of flavoring is already in the bottle, making it 30ml of liquid with 12mg of nicotine. However, our goal is 60ml of liquid with 6mg of nicotine. For this reason, we need an additional 30ml of nicotine-free base to dilute it accordingly.
Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. In summary, if you are satisfied with 2-2.5mg / 5-5.5mg, mixing with pre-made nicotine base is easier.
Mixing a Longfill E-Liquid with Nicotine Shots
As mentioned earlier, you can't avoid using 0mg base if you want to mix your longfill liquid with nicotine shots. To get the corresponding value from the table, you should always fill your longfill to the minimum level after adding the nicotine shots. This corresponds to 120ml / 100ml or 60ml depending on the longfill.
You can, of course, calculate exactly how much you need to get exactly 2mg with a 120ml longfill, for example. There are various calculators available online - here's our favorite. However, mixing with whole shots is a bit easier, and to be honest, most people don't really care about 0.25mg more or less.
About me - After three years of vaping and over two years as a salesperson in the Zurich and Horgen branches, it was time for a change of scenery and so I somehow ended up in the infinite depths of the vaping office. There I discovered, among other things, an undreamt-of joy in texting and will bring you some more informative, pointless, funny, helpful and silly contributions in the future.
