
The ribwort plantain can be used as a tea, in the vaporizer or for smoking. It is said to have expectorant and soothing properties.
Sky Herbline Ribwort Plantain
Ribwort plantain is native to Europe, but is now found all over the world. It is commonly found in meadows, paths and fields. Its roots can penetrate up to 60 cm into the depth of the soil and it blooms from May to September. The ancient Germanic tribes, the Celts, and also the Romans associated it with the underworld, but likewise it was also associated with spring and fertility, recalling the story of Persephone, who dwells in the underworld for six months of the year and acts as the goddess of fertility for six months of the year.
Iridoid glycosides, such as aucubin, catalpol, asperuloside, mucilages, tannins, silicic acid and saponin are found in ribwort. Thus, it is said to have expectorant and anti-irritant properties, as well as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. As an incense, ribwort plantain is used against lovesickness and separation pains, it is said to cleanse the mind and heart.
To enjoy ribwort plantain as a tea, it is poured over with hot water and allowed to steep. For vaporizing, on the other hand, a temperature of 100 °C to 150 °C is recommended.
